The coffee producers
Honduras is a country with outstanding natural beauty, and some people even refer to it as the “green lung“ of Central America. Agriculture is one of the most significant sources of income in the region, however women have minimal access to agricultural resources, and suffer from considerable gender discrimination.
The Kolnáal Co-operative is made up of Lenca women, most of whom are single mothers. They are growing organic specialty coffee together to improve their competitiveness and overcome the barriers of social, ethnic and gender marginalisation. Through the co-operative they can have access to the international market, allowing them to sell their coffee for a fair price and continue their fight for equal opportunities.
